Physical Education/Athletic Department
It is the mission of the Physical Education Program at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School to demonstrate a commitment to the comprehensive education and development of each student as an individual and as a member of the school community. Specifically, physical education activities, while embracing the New York State Learning Standards, offer students an opportunity to: a)understand the benefits of engaging in regular physical activity now and for a lifetime; b)improve cardiovascular and respiratory health through vigorous activities; c) demonstrate an understanding of how to participate in a "Safe and Healthy Environment"; d) develop sound "character" traits through participation in physical activities; e) promote and help improve self-esteem; f) help promote socially acceptable behavior, cooperation and teamwork through activities; g) develop life-long skills that students can carry into their adult years.
Health Department
A: Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention
B: Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid health information and health promoting products and services
C: Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health enhancing behaviors and reduce health risks
D: Students will analyze the influence of culture, media, technology, and other factors on health
E: Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health
F: Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal setting and decision making skills to enhance health
G: Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health
