BPL

Use this website to access the catalog of the Brooklyn Public Library. The catalog includes ebooks and audiobooks which you can access with a Brooklyn Public Library card. A library card from Brooklyn Public will also allow you to use their online databases.  You can also find information about the special programs the library has for Brooklyn teens including information about jobs and internships.  You can apply for a card by using the link below.  Please accept location sharing when prompted!  You will have instant access to Brooklyn Public Library's digital collection.  (Note: You will not be able to accept location sharing if you apply using your cell phone.  In that case, you will need to go to a branch library to pick up your card.)

DPLA
The Digital Public Library of America offers users millions of digitized artifacts and documents from museums, libraries and archives from across the United States.  Participants include the Library of Congress, Harvard University and the National Archives. It is a great place to find primary source documents, some of which are already bundled into collections to support specific lessons. They also offer a collection of over 7000 free ebooks, mostly classics and non-copyrighted material.

MyLibraryNYC

MyLibraryNYC is a partnership between the New York City Department of Education and the three public library systems.  Teachers at FDR can use MyLibraryNYC to access the resources of Brooklyn Public Library including databases, ebooks and more.  They can also borrow class sets of books directly from Brooklyn Public and have them sent to the school.  See the FDR HS librarians if you need more information.

QPL

Any person who lives, works, goes to school or works in New York State and is 12 years of age or older is eligible to receive a library card from the Queens Public Library.  As with the libraries above, a library card will allow you to access all of the digital assets of the library.

Please Note!

New York City public school students can access the ebook and audiobook collections of the Department of Education's Citywide Digital Library by using the Sora eReader app.

Students can also use the Sora app to access the eBooks and audiobooks in the Young Adult and the Children's collections of all three New York City public library systems.

If students have an eCard issued by Brooklyn Public Library or New York Public Library, they can add the information to the app and use the library.  The Queens Public Library allows public school students to add the library to their Sora app without a library card.
