Overview

Through the years, the cultural diversity of the F.D.R. student population has been the primary factor in making F.D.R. such a unique and special school.  Traditionally the ENL Department has always led the way in creating innovative and relevant programs to serve our ENL student population.  The very popular Multi-Cultural Event, the Saturday Literacy Academy for ELL students, and the evening ENL Parent Academy have all originated from the ENL Department.

Currently, the ENL Department is the one of the largest departments in the school, consisting of seventeen ENL teachers.  Our department teaches students to acquire the skills needed to proficiently communicate in another language, as well as expose students to a world of different cultures and traditions.  With over fifty-eight languages spoken at F.D.R., our ENL program plays a critical and vital role at our school.  The ENL Department is proud to be in the forefront of serving the needs of F.D.R.’s culturally diverse student population.
